Patna: RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav called Ram Vilas Paswan a `weathercock` and an `opportunist` on Sunday and said that the LJP chief changed sides for ministerial berths.

Lalu posted on the micro-blogging site Twitter - “Ramvilas Paswan is a rank opportunist who switches sides at the drop of a hat merely for benefits without carrying a baggage of ideology.”

He also called him a weathercock.

Lalu further said that Paswan was the only person who has worked with various political parties and various prime ministers.

Earlier too in the day, at a rally in Chapra, addressed by leaders of RJD, JD(U) and Congress for an Assembly bye-election, Lalu had said he has not seen a "weathercock" like Paswan who changes tack to suit his own political requirements.

Prasad reminded Paswan that he had resigned from the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government over the Godhra riots in 2002, but has conveniently joined hands with the BJP and was serving as the minister in the government being headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was the then Gujarat Chief Minister.
Paswan hits back

Meanwhile, an angry Paswan hit back at the RJD leader asking him to explain his alliance with his bitter foe-turned-friend Nitish Kumar.

"Instead of calling me a `weathercock`, Prasad should explain as to why he had to join forces with senior JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar whom he had been denouncing with choicest words for past 20 years," he told reporters in Patna, as per PTI.

Paswan cautioned Prasad that he should refrain from passing "below the belt" remarks against him.

"If I have been a weathercock, what is he as he joined hands with Nitish Kumar after attacking him for 20 years," he asked before leaving for Hajipur to campaign for BJP.
