Patna: Describing the law and order situation in the state as "not satisfactory", Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday directed senior police officials to review the situation in police stations.
Police officials have been directed to review the law and order situation in the police stations, instead of at the district and state level, he told reporters here at the
weekly `Janata Darbar`.
The police headquarters have further been directed to keep a tab on the performance of police stations in tackling crime, Kumar said.
The DGP has been asked to evaluate the performance of the superintendents of police and submit a report to him at the earliest.
Referring to the law and order situation in the state in recent months, he said there has been significant improvement of late. "But the situation cannot be described
as satisfactory."
The Chief Minister said there was a shortage of manpower in the police department and recruitments will take place over the next five years to fill vacancies in the posts
of constables, inspectors and DSPs.
A special recruitment drive will be launched to fill the backlog of vacant posts of policemen, he added.
