Purnia: An inquiry was on Thursday ordered by the Railway police into GRP personnel allegedly dragging a mentally challenged person with his leg tied as punishment for crossing the tracks in Purnia.
"An inquiry has been ordered and those found guilty will be punished," Katihar Railway Superintendent of Police Jitendra Mishra told a news agency.
The official said he will visit the area to take a first hand account of the incident, which came to light when a photograph of the incident taken on a mobile phone by a passenger was published.
It shows the man, 40-year-old Gyanendra Chaudhary, who is a resident of Saptari in Nepal, purportedly being bound and dragged like an animal to hospital by the GRP personnel.
On Sunday, the Purnia GRP caught Chaudhary who was injured while crossing track after alighting from the Jogbani-Katihar passenger train.
Criticising the inhuman treatment meted out to her father, Chaudhary`s daughter who came in search of him, said that her father was mentally challenged and had run away from home.
