Modi moots central reservation for backwards on Bihar lines

Deputy CM S K Modi demanded that the Centre provide reservation for backward and extremely backward people on the pattern of Bihar government.

Patna: Deputy Chief Minister S K Modi on Tuesday demanded that the Centre provide reservation for backward and extremely backward people on the pattern of Bihar government.

"The Centre must provide reservation for backward and extremely backward people on the pattern of the state government", Modi said while addressing a function organised to mark the 88th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Karpoori Thakur.
He said the state government had provided 18 per cent and 12 per cent reservation for the backward and extremely backwards in Bihar, "but the Centre doesn`t have given the facility for them in jobs".

Modi said `Jan Nayak` Karpoori Thakur was the first Chief Minister in the country who had provided reservation for backwards and extremely backwards in government jobs with the support of Jansangh and BJP.
He recalled that Kailashpati Mishra, senior BJP leader, was the Finance minister in 1977 when Thakur made the provisions for reservation for them.
