Patna: The Bihar government on Tuesday said it has
launched a new amnesty scheme to pay taxes for residents who
have recently constructed their houses in municipal areas of
the state.

Under the scheme, such householders submitting holding
taxes by February 28 at one go would have their remaining dues
waived off, state Finance Minister S K Modi told agency.
If they deposit their holding taxes after February 28, it
would be realised from the date they had applied for power
connections for their residences from the Bihar State
Electricity Board (BSEB), he said.

"Householders who have constructed residences lately in
the state`s towns should take advantage of the scheme. Failure
to do so would expose them for penalties under the Bihar
Municipality Act 2007, wherein apart from a fine they will
also be compelled to pay holding taxes from the date they
applied for electrical connections for their houses," Modi
said.

For the old householders who pay their holding taxes
at one go, the department has delayed the date of depositing
taxes till January 31, he said.
"In view of the overwhelming response by old householders
in clearing their holding taxes, municipalities have been
directed to set up special holding tax collection centrism,"
he said adding that they have also been advised to appoint
adequate number of holding tax collectors.
