Nitish asks DMs to ensure people-oriented administration

Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Saturday asked District Magistrates to ensure "people-oriented" administration with thrust on law and order, social and communal harmony, besides maintaining zero-tolerance on the issue of corruption.

communal harmony, besides maintaining zero-tolerance on
the issue of corruption.

Addressing district magistrates and divisional
commissioners during a meeting here, Kumar said the people`s
mandate be fully respected and the work done during the past
five years would have to be carried forward relentlessly.
“You have to ensure people-oriented administration and
maintain law and order which has now earned the state a good
name," Principal Secretary (Cabinet) Afzal Amanullah told
reporters.

The chief minister said the district magistrates now
have to play the role of "representatives of the government".

“We have planned to raise a separate engineering wing
under the state planning and development department for
execution of schemes", he said adding the district
magistrates as government representatives would monitor and
supervise the implementation.

Amanullah said the chief minister also asked the
collectors to take preventive steps for ensuring free, fair
and peaceful elections to the Panchayati Raj Institutions and
oversee the projects taken for the Local Area Development
following scrapping of the LAD funds for the MLAs/MLCs in
Bihar.
Kumar directed the District Magistrates to ensure full
caution while monitoring the Census survey and it should be
priority for them to ensure coverage of all it was very
important.

Chief Minister asked the DMs to plan in advance in the
area where floods and drought recur and boats be repaired and
divers trained to reach help at the time of the natural
calamities, Amanullah said.

Kumar said an action plan has been framed for the area
where water level had gone down and in the event of scarcity
of water, alternative arrangements be made so that the people
do not suffer with sinking of handpumps.

“We should also have zero-tolerance on the issue of
corruption and steps be intensified for eradication of polio
with 100 per cent coverage of anganvadi centres" , the Chief
Minister said.
