Patna: Nationalist Congress party (NCP) General Secretary Tariq Anwar today said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's love for the Muslims was nothing but a 'damage control' move after his pictures came up in local dailies holding the hands of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Kumar had charged the Centre with being anti-Muslim in his bid to cover the lost ground among the minority voters after the advertisements which showed him holding the hands of his Gujarat counterpart were published, Anwar told reporters.

He said Kumar was following the footsteps of Lalu Prasad who befooled the minorities for 15 years and did precious little for the welfare of the Muslims.

With the assembly elections round the corner, Kumar has begun talking about the welfare of the minorities that form around 16 per cent votes, Kumar said.

Referring to Kumar's promise to improve the lot of 'Pasmanda' Muslim community, Anwar said if Kumar was so serious about their welfare, he should not hesitate in announcing reservation for this section of the Muslims on the lines for the backward sections in southern states and West Bengal.
