One die during Bihar panchayat votes counting

One person was killed and 20 others injured when the supporters of rival Mukhiya candidates clashed with the police at a counting centre in a govt school at Kusheshwarsthan in Bihar`s Darbhanga district, police sources said.

Darbhanga (Bihar): One person was killed
and 20 others injured on Sunday when the supporters of rival
Mukhiya candidates clashed with the police at a counting
centre in a government school at Kusheshwarsthan in Bihar`s
Darbhanga district, police sources said.

The supporters of rival Mukhiya candidates attacked a
counting official and threw stones at the policemen and their
vehicles by alleging irregularities, sources said.
One person, identified as Jibat Rai was killed and 20
others, including a police officer was injured by stones
thrown at him.

The cops lathicharged on the supporters of mukhiya
candidates and later fired 50 warning shots in the air to
disperse the mob who were trying to loot ballot papers, they
said.
The injured were admitted to a referral hospital,
sources said.

The district magistrate R Laxmanan and Superintendent
of Police Vikas Vaibhav have rushed to the spot with
additional reinforcement to monitor the situation.
