Patna: The probe into the Bahadurpur Housing Colony bomb blast here has revealed that BJP president Amit Shah's April 14 rally in the city could have been the target of the plot.

Shah is due to hold a rally at Patna's Gandhi Maidan on April 14 ahead of state elections later this year.

On Monday, a powerful bomb blast had ripped through a flat in the housing colony. Two other high-intensity live bombs were later defused by the police.

Security agencies are probing if Monday's blast has any links with the 2013 serial bomb blasts in Patna and Bodh Gaya.

Two youths staying in the flat illegally were suspected to be involved in making the bombs. They managed to flee when the explosion took place, police said.

A timer device of lotus brand was attached with the bombs. A watch of the same brand was used in the bombs that went off in 2013 at Narendra Modi’s rally at Gandhi Maidan ahead of the Lok Sabha polls and at Bodh Gaya, police said.

An Intelligence Bureau team on Tuesday visited the MIG Sector III flat and collected information from locals.

The NIA team probing the blasts case at Gandhi Maidan as well Bodh Gaya was also expected to visit the blast site.
