PM gets no immunity under any law: Modi

BJP is in favour of bringing Prime Minister under the ambit of Lokpal since the top leader gets no immunity under any existing law of the country.

Patna: BJP is in favour of bringing Prime
Minister under the ambit of Lokpal since the top leader gets
no immunity under any existing law of the country, senior
party leader S K Modi said on Tuesday.

"BJP demands that Prime Minister be brought under the
ambit of Lokpal because Indian Penal Code, Criminal Procedure
Code and Prevention of Corruption Act do not not give any
immunity to PM," Modi, also deputy chief minister of Bihar,
told reporters.

"When there is no immunity for Prime Minister in
substantive law, then there should not be any immunity for PM
under procedural law," he said.

Calling for "independence" of CBI, he said its director
should be appointed by a collegium comprising Prime Minister,
Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha and Lokpal chairman.

Besides, investigation and prosecution wings of the CBI
should be separated, he said.
Modi urged the Centre to pass the Lokpal bill with the
provisions of Lokayukta in states in conformity with the Bihar
Lokayukta bill 2011 passed by the state legislature recently.
