Ram Jethamalani, Lalu's daughter Misa Bharti file nominations for Rajya Sabha from RJD

The term of five sitting Rajya Sabha MPs from Bihar will expire in July.

Patna: Senior lawyer Ram Jethmalani and Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Misa Bharti, Monday, filed nomination papers for Rajya Sabha.

Both have filed nomination papers from the RJD. Former JD(U) president Sharad Yadav and senior party leader RCP Singh also filed nomination papers from their party.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife former CM Rabri Devi was among the senior party leaders from the ruling combine who were present on the occasion.

The national and state parliamentary boards of RJD had authorized Lalu Prasad to select candidates for the upper house of parliament.

"Lalu has favoured Ram Jethmalani for two factors. First he is a BJP baiter after being expelled from the saffron party in 2013, and second is that he has been helping Lalu in the multi-crore fodder scam cases," a RJD leader said.

In the case of Misa, earlier reports had claimed that Rabri Devi was the frontrunner to enter the upper house from RJF. However, she is believed to have withdrawn her candidature after daughter Misa expressed her keenness to enter the Rajya Sabha

With 80 legislators in the Bihar assembly, two RJD nominees for the five Rajya Sabha seats will get through easily.

Janata Dal-United's nominees are also expected to sail through as the party has 71 legislators.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, with53 legislators, has picked former state unit chief Gopal Narayan Singh.
