Jamnagar (Gujarat): Valuables like silver utensils and antique items worth Rs 12.57 lakh have been stolen from Darbargadh, the palace of Jamnagar Maharajah Shatrusalya, police said on Friday.

The manager of the palace has lodged a complaint that 25 kg silver utensils and antique items were stolen from the palace during the last few months, a police official said.

"The incident has taken place over a period of few months. Unidentified thieves broke open the lock to gain entry inside and vanished with the valuable items," the official said.

"Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team is scanning the entire area for clues and assisting the probe," police said adding that a dog squad has also been pressed into service.

Built in 1540, Darbargadh is a significant historical complex in Jamnagar and was the old royal residence.

Three years ago, a similar theft was reported from another ancestral palace of the erstwhile rulers of Jamnagar in which antique artifacts worth over Rs four crore were reported to be stolen.
