New Delhi: The government today approved
implementation of the centrally-sponsored scheme under the
National Horticulture Mission with an outlay of Rs 10,363.46
crore during the 11th Five-Year Plan period.
Of the total outlay of Rs 10,363.46 crore, Cabinet
Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) proposed that the
Centre's share will be 85 per cent, which is Rs 8,809 crore,
an official statement said.
The National Horticulture Mission was launched during the
10th Plan period, it said.
It also said, about 15.83 lakh hectares of land will be
brought under horticulture crops through area expansion and
5.20 lakh hectares of old and senile orchards will be
rejuvenated.
For making available good quality planting material
around 2,500 new nurseries will be established and the
existing ones will be revitalised.
The CCEA also approved taking up organic farming in 2.21
lakh hectares and Integrated Management and Integrated
Nutrient Management will be taken up in 15 lakh hectares.
The new interventions like High Density Plantations,
Horticulture Mechanisations and certification of Good
Agricultural Practices have been included after getting
feedback during the implementation of the NHM, it said.
The cost norms and pattern of assistance for post harvest
management (PHM) have been enhanced to encourage private
participation in building PHM infrastructure, it added.
