New Delhi: The total revenue of India's
consumer communication market is likely to touch Rs 24,000
crore by 2013 driven by good growth in the broadband and
Internet access sectors, global information technology
research and advisory company Gartner said.
Indian consumer communications market revenue is
projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of
2.6 percent from Rs 21,100 crore in 2008 to Rs 24,000 crore
in 2013, Gartner said.
"The Indian fixed-line market will see growth from
broadband and internet access sectors, which will together
grow at the rate of 22 percent to reach Rs 5,500 crore by
2013," Gartner senior research analyst Neha Gupta said.
As per the research firm the consumer fixed line
subscriber base would remain at 37 million connections by
2013, while the broadband subscriber base is expected to
increase by a CAGR of 26 percent to reach 16 million
subscribers during the same period.
Gupta said, "The voice market will contract through 2013
as the number of consumer fixed lines will continue to fall
slightly, mostly because pressure from mobile substitution
will persist."
Revenue from broadband services would majorly contribute
to the overall growth of fixed line services in India, with a
CAGR of 25 percent from 2008 to 2013.
However, there would be a major drop in broadband average
revenue per user, Gartner said.
