New Delhi: Global financial meltdown, job
losses and problems of contract labour would figure
prominently at the next session of the Indian Labour
Conference to be held early next year.
The 43rd session of the Standing Labour Committee, which
advises Government about principles and policies in the field
of labour, identified these issues for detailed discussion in
the upcoming conference at its meeting here today.
Employment generation and skill development would be the
other issue figuring prominently at the conference, said a
representative who attended the standing committee meeting.
Representatives from central trade unions, employers and
state government delegates attended the day-long meeting.
The meeting also reviewed the action taken report on the
conclusions arrived at the 42nd Session of the Indian Labour
Conference held in February this year.
On the occasion, Labour and Employment Minister
Mallikarjun Kharge released the 'National Policy on HIV/AIDS
and the World of Work', a policy document which seeks to
ensure rights of workers inflicted with the virus at workplace
and encourage action to prevent it from spreading.
Talking to reporters, the minister also indicated some
improvement in the employment scenario in the country which
has been hard hit by the global financial crisis.
