Upbeat FM sees 7.75% growth for 2009-10 Zeebiz Bureau

New Delhi: Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday said the economy could grow around 7.75 percent in 2009-10, much higher than the official estimation of 7.2 percent.

"With latest GDP data on 2009-10 indicating 7.9 percent growth in the second quarter, the growth outlook for the next two quarters and for the whole year is expected to be in the upper bound range of more predictions for the Indian economy," he said in a speech.

The Central Statistical Organisation on Monday pegged the gross domestic product (GDP) growth for the fiscal at 7.2 percent, powered by a speedy recovery of the industrial section.

Indian economy expanded 6.7 percent in 2008-09 amid global financial crisis and recession in the advanced economies.

Though the growth story is back, policy makers are worried about inflation
