Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's health is improving and she is now able to sit up in her hospital bed, NDTV reported on Saturday.

Citing sources, the report claimed that although she continues to be on respiratory support, the AIADMK leader is now "largely conscious".

Jayalalithaa has been in hospital for more than three weeks and is being treated for a lung infection.

She still requires more treatment in the hospital even as she is on the path of recovery.

The AIADMK on Friday had said that she is "completely well" and will return home soon.

"Amma (Jayalalithaa) has progressed very well under the daily monitoring of Apollo Hospital doctors and specialists and soon she will return home," NDTV quoted AIADMK spokesperson CR Saraswathy as saying.

She is “taking rest” on the advice of doctors, otherwise, “she is completely well and will come home soon. God is by her side on her health," she said.

Jayalalithaa, 68, was admitted to Chennai's Apollo Hospital on September 22.
