Tiruvannamalai: A woman died and 15 others were injured in a stampede at Arulmighu Pachaiamman temple on Monday.

The stamped took place during milk pot (paal kudam) procession organised to offer prayers for Tamil Nadu CM Jayalalithaa’s speedy recovery.

The ritual was organised by former AIADMK minister 'Agri' Krishnamoorthy for the speedy recovery of party leader Jayalalithaa. She has been undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai since September 22.

Arulmighu Pachaiamman temple is situated on the foothills of Annmalai Hills in Tiruvannamalai town.

Around 10,000 people participated in the procession from Arulmighu Pachaiamman temple to Sri Arunachaleswarar temple.

However, the organisers expected only 5,000 participants, according to a report in TOI.
