Assets worth millions found with 2 Bastar babus

Two government officers posted in Maoist insurgency-hit area of Chhattisgarh`s Bastar region amassed massive wealth illegally, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said Wednesday.

Raipur: Two government officers posted in Maoist insurgency-hit area of Chhattisgarh`s Bastar region amassed massive wealth illegally, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) said Wednesday.

The ACB said it carried out raids Tuesday at the premises of Jaibhan Singh Rathore, Janpad panchayat chief executive officer in Bijapur district, and Domar Prasad Devangan, sub-divisional officer in Bastar district.

The bureau found they have accumulated massive assets disproportionate to their known source of income. The two officers were yet to be arrested.

Rathore has assets and cash not less than Rs 17 million while Devangan too has wealth and cash of nearly Rs 16 million, officials said.

"These two gentlemen posted in extreme Naxal areas have earned massive money illegally," ACB additional director general DM Awasthi told reporters.

"Cases have been registered against them under the Prevention of Corruption Act on the basis of documents and seizures made during the raids," he added.

Sources in the ACB said the bureau was still analysing the papers recovered in the raids to detect if the two officers have any more hidden assets.
