Raipur: A total of 103 Urban Bodies, including 20 municipal councils and 83 nagar panchayats, will go to poll in the second and final phase on Wednesday for which over 6000 candidates are in the fray.
A total of 9,69,267 voters, including 4,85,528 male and 4,83,729 females, will decide the fate of 6171 candidates, including 5,666 for the post of corporators, 20 for presidents of municipal councils, and 83 for presidents of nagar panchayats.
A total of 1,631 wards will go to?polls?in this phase.
"Preparations have been done for the second phase of polling in 103 urban bodies and polling parties are reaching their destination amid tight security," State Election Commissioner PC Dalei said.
He said out of 1,751 polling stations, around 728 booths are identified as "sensitive" and 132 as "hyper sensitive".
Elaborate security arrangements are being made at all booths to ensure fair and peaceful polling, Dalei added.
While polling in the insurgency-hit Bastar, Kondagaon, Dantewada, Sukma and some regions of Kanker district will be held between 7 AM to 3 PM, it will be held between 8 AM to 5 PM in remaining areas.
The 20 municipal councils going to polls tomorrow are: Takhatpur, Ratanpur, Mungeli, Katghora, Balrampur, Manendragarh, Kharsia, Tilda-Neora, Gobra-Nawapara, Arang, Balodabazar, Mahasamund, Bagbahara, Kumhari, Ahiwara, Balod, Dongargarh, Kanker, Kirandul and Bade Bacheli.
A total of 51 Urban Bodies went to polls in the first phase yesterday, registering a turnout of 73.06 per cent.
Counting of votes for both the phases will take place on January 4.
