Chhattisgarh: Woman gang-raped, set on fire by duo; survives

The accused duo identified as Hansraj Sahu (40) and Iqbal Khan (32) were arrested.

Raipur: A 35-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped and set on fire by two men in Chhattisgarh's Durg district, police said on Friday.

The accused duo identified as Hansraj Sahu (40) and Iqbal Khan (32) were arrested today.

The incident occurred yesterday when the woman, a native of Chiturdih village who works for a catering service, was lured by the duo who promised her a job and asked her to accompany them, Durg Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Agrawal told PTI.

Sahu and Khan allegedly raped the woman by taking turns in Urla area under Chhavni police station limits and set her ablaze when she threatened to approach the police.

She was saved by locals who rushed to the spot after hearing her screams, and rushed her to hospital.

"The woman was admitted at hospital with 40 per cent burns. Her condition is said to be stable now," the ASP said.

Based on her statement, Sahu was apprehended from Urla and Khan from Dhamdha area this evening.

A case has been registered against the duo under appropriate sections of the IPC, he said, adding that further investigation is on.
