Congress seeking `moral victory` on Raman Singh`s hometurf

`If Ram Singh`s party loses in Kawardha, it will be a moral victory for us` --this is the refrain in Congress here, which is hoping to wrest the seat from BJP in Chhattisgarh Chief Minister`s home town but a divided house is making it an uphill task.

Kawardha: `If Ram Singh`s party loses in Kawardha, it will be a moral victory for us` --this is the refrain in Congress here, which is hoping to wrest the seat from BJP in Chhattisgarh Chief Minister`s home town but a divided house is making it an uphill task.

Nomination of Mohd Akbar a sitting MLA from a neighbouring constituency of Pandariya at the last minute, rejecting the claim of Yogeshwar Raj Singh, the heir of the erstwhile Kawardha royal estate here, has caused some heartburn in a section of Congress workers here.

The reason for nominating a Muslim face was taken after seeing Akbar`s social involvement and work done for the people of Pandariya, Congress leaders here said.

Akbar is considered a close aide of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Ajit Jogi but the cadre are divided over his nomination.

BJP has also not given ticket to its sitting MLA from the constituency Siyaram Sahu, who had defeated Yogeshwar Raj Singh by 10,408 votes in 2008 assembly election.

Yogeshwar Raj Singh, also called Rajaji, claimed he was assured of a ticket to contest assembly polls by Congrees but later, his name was not there in the list.

He says he unsure of the Congress candidate` s fate."I am hurt and my supporters feel that it is a cheating (by Congress). They wanted me to leave the party which I did," Raj Singh said.

He has recently offered to quit from Congress too."It is a matter of sadness that Mohd Akbar being such a senior and seasoned politician has not yet come to meet me," Singh said.
