Korba: A fire broke out in a thermal power station in Chhattisgarh`s Korba district, disrupting production at the state-run facility, officials said on Wednesday.
One of the transformers at the Unit 2 of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Thermal Power Station was engulfed in fire last night, Chhattisgarh State Electricity Board officials said.
Due to the blaze, the board has suffered losses running into crores, they added.
The first unit (250 mw) of the plant had been shut down for maintenance since June 7. After the inferno, the second unit too was closed. Thus, the entire production at the facility has come to a standstill, the officials said.
Although the exact cause of the fire is still not certain.
