Five Naxals held in Chhattisgarh

Five Naxalites, including a commander, were on Tuesday arrested in Chhattisgarh`s Narayanpur district, police said.



Raipur: Five Naxalites, including a
commander, were on Tuesday arrested in Chhattisgarh`s Narayanpur
district, police said.

The extremists, who carry a reward on their heads, were
apprehended from the jungles of Kongera village, Narayanpur
Superintendent of Police Rahul Bhagat told agency by phone.
The arrested were identified as Lehar Singh (the
commander), Bir Singh, Juglu, Manku and Mahesh Baghel. One
rifle, a pipe bomb, electric wire and some explosives were
seized from them, he said.

The Maoists were nabbed during a joint combing operation
by the CRPF and the district police, Bhagat said.

Lehar Singh carried a Rs 2,500 prize money on his head
and the others Rs 1,000 each, he said.

The arrested Naxals were wanted in several criminal
cases, including murder and attempt to murder, Bhagat said.
Naxals set afire vehicles engaged in mining in Chhattisgarh

Naxals today burnt down five
vehicles engaged in iron ore mining in Chhattisgarh`s Kanker
district, police said.

The incident took place this morning in Barbaspur
village.

Around 40 armed Maoists raided the site and after
threatening the labourers, they set ablaze five vehicles
engaged in mining, Kanker Superintendent of Police Ajay Yadav
told agency by phone.

A police team was immediately rushed to the spot and
labourers were quizzed about the incident, he said.

The extremists are reportedly opposing iron ore mining
in the area, the police officer said.
