Food inspector lands in ACB net for extortion

Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Wednesday arrested a food inspector in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh for alleged extortion of Rs 12,000.

Raipur: Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau Wednesday arrested a food inspector in Kanker district of Chhattisgarh for alleged extortion of Rs 12,000.

P L Sakshi, posted at Narharpur development block of the district was extorting money from grocery shopkeepers in the region, an ACB official said.

According to complainant Deepak Kumar Jain, who runs a grocery store in Rani Dongri village of Charama tehsil, food inspector Sakshi used to extort Rs 500 each from around 24 store owners in the area every month, he said.
Recently, Sakshi had asked Deepak to collect Rs 12,000 from shopkeepers and hand over to him, following which he registered a complaint against the official.

After verifying the complaint, a trap was laid at Sakshi`s residence and he was arrested.

They also recovered the extorted amount from the accused.
A case under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered against him, the official added.
