Close on the heels of killing abducted policeman Lucas Tete in Bihar, Maoist militants Friday hacked to death a police constable in the midst of a weekly market in Chhattisgarh`s restive Bastar region.

The brutal murder took place in Katekalyan area in Dantewada district, over 420 km south of state capital Raipur.

"The police constable Nobel Khalko was attacked in a flash in a full public view by several Maoists in a weekly market. He was attacked with sharp edged weapons and died on the spot,`` S.R.P. Kalluri, senior superintendent of police, Dantewada told IANS over phone.
