Raipur: Heavy gunfight broke out between Indo-Tibetan Border Police forces and Maoist insurgents, numbering more than a hundred, in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon early on Thursday.

More than 600 rounds of ammunition were fired from both sides, ANI reported citing ITBP.

The militants have fled the area after the attack on ITBP's operating base at Kondagaon, the report said, adding, at least four rockets were fired by the Naxals.

There was no casualty.

Earlier, Naxals had killed a politician in Bihar's Gaya district.

LJP leader Sudesh Paswan was assassinated in Dumaria last month.

After the killing, the Naxals had put out a hand-written pamphlet warning the supposed police ''informers'' of more such attacks.

It also lashed out at LJP leader Chirag Paswan and former chief minister Jitan Ram Manjhi for shedding 'crocodile tears' over the incident.

The LJP has demanded President's Rule in the state for “rising” crime.
