Raipur: Chhattisgarh State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday announced elections to the 154 urban bodies in the state that will be held in two phases- on December 8 and 11.
"With the announcement of these two phase polls, the model code of conduct has come into force in these local governing bodies, including municipal corporations, municipal councils and nagar panchayats," State Election Commissioner P C Dalei said in a press conference here.
As many as 51 urban bodies, including 10 municipal corporations, 19 municipal councils and 22 nagar panchayats, will go to polls in the first phase on December 8, while the remaining 103 municipal corporations, 20 municipal councils, 83 nagar panchayats will have the elections on December 11, he said.
Out of the total 2,881 wards, 1,250 will go to polls in the first phase and 1,631 in the second phase.
For the first phase, candidates can file their nomination from November 17 to 24. After the scrutiny the candidates can withdraw their names by November 29.
For the second phase elections, candidates can file their nominations between November 19 and 26. They can withdraw their nominations by November 29 after a scrutiny on November 27, Dalei said.
37,27,987 voters, including 18,99,314 men and 18,28,673 women are eligible to exercise their franchise in the polls, for which 5,087 polling stations will be set up, he said.
"Across the state 1,421 polling booths have been identified as sensitive, while 147 as hyper sensitive ones. Elaborate security arrangements will be made at all the polling stations to ensure fair and peaceful polling," Dalei said.
