Raipur: The Centre has granted an aid of
nearly Rs 800 crore for constructing and developing roads in
Naxal-infested Sarguja district of Chhattishgarh.
A grant of Rs 748 crore has been sanctioned by the
Central government on the request of the state to built 800
kms of road in Sarguja, official sources said Tuesday.
About 15 roads running into 630 kilometres will be
built in Maoist-hit areas at a cost of Rs 650 crores while the
remaining 140 kilometres will be built at an estimated cost of
Rs 93 crores, sanctioned from National Roads Fund, they said.
Also, orders have been issued to begin work on 11 of
these roads, sources said.
Decisions and announcements in this regard were made
by Chief Minister Raman Singh after a meeting of the tribal
development authorities at Ambikapur district yesterday.
Singh also said that two ITIs will be opened in
Sarguja region besides polytechnic colleges in Korea and
Jashpur districts to promote technical education.
Also a proposal to set up 17 new polytechnic colleges
in five districts--Bilaspur, Raigad, Sarguja, Korea and Korba
--in the state has been sent to the Centre, he said.
