Bilaspur: Chhattisgarh High Court has ordered an inquiry into the conduct and work of Additional District and Sessions Judge (fast track court) Anestus Toppo following the suicide committed by Jagdalpur Superintendent of Police Devnarayan Patel after an alleged tussle with him.

"On the direction of Chief Justice, High Court Chhattisgarh, Yatindra Singh, a registrar will visit district court Bastar at Jagdalpur and inquire about the work and conduct of ADJ (FTC), Jagdalpur Anestus Toppo," Registrar general Ashok Panda said in a directive issued yesterday.

Meanwhile, Judge Toppo has been shifted as the Chairman of Permanent Lok Adalat, Bilaspur by the state government on the recommendation of the HC.
Notably, following a tussle between Patel and judge Toppo on February 23, the former was suspended on Monday.

Later, Patel allegedly committed suicide after shooting his wife Pratima and two children at his official residence in Jagdalpur on the intervening night of Monday-Tuesday.

The couple died on the spot while their children Aryan(6) and Poonam (11) are undergoing treatment at Ramkrishna Care Hospital in Raipur.

According to doctors at Ramkrishna Care, the condition of Aryan is said to be stable while Poonam remains serious.
Soon after the incident, the state government had ordered a magisterial probe into the incident.

A suicide note was recovered from Patel`s residence, which spelled out his frustration over his suspension.

"I was always committed for my state and department and based on false claims made by a drunkard against me, I have been dishonoured and suspended without proper probe into the case. I have never compromised with my job, but wasn`t given a chance to put forth my point is very disappointing. Hence, I am going along with my family," the note read, according to the police.

The additional district judge was allegedly inebriated when Patel had an altercation with him on Sunday last, police said.
