Raipur: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh today announced a raise in the monthly pay of Special Police Officers from Rs 2,150 to Rs 3,000.

Launching 'Gram Suraaj' campaign at a village in Naxal-hit south Bastar, he directed the officials concerned to issue ration cards to the SPOs, who play a significant role in fighting the Maoist menace along with security personnel.

Under the campaign, panchayat public representatives would contact over 66 lakh people in rural areas to understand the problems faced by the villagers.

Singh visited a relief camp, school and market in Dornapal village in south Bastar. He approved construction of four additional rooms in the local school.

He then interacted with villagers and assured them that the government was with them.

Singh enquired about supply of essential commodities through the Public Distribution System and asked villagers about power and water supply arrangements.
