Raipur: Tension prevailed in Dhamtari city in Chhattisgarh on Wednesday after a clash broke out between two communities in which a senior police officer was injured.

Following the conflict, police invoked section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) in the city in Dhamtari district, banning unlawful assembly of people.

"A clash broke out between people of two communities this evening over the issue of a girl of one community marrying a boy belonging to another community. To control the situation, section 144 has been imposed in the city," Dhamtari Collector Bhim Singh told PTI.

The situation is under control and a large number of police personnel has been deployed to prevent any untoward incident, Singh said.

A senior police official said the problem started this evening when people from the girl's side objected her marriage with the boy from another community.

"People from both the sides gathered near Kotwali police station and the situation took an ugly turn," police said, adding, that Dhamtari Additional Superintendent of Police Ashok Sikre sustained injuries in the clash following which he was rushed to a local hospital.

No arrests have been made so far in this connection, he said.
