Two jawans injured in Chhattisgarh Naxal attack

Two jawans of the elite CoBRA battalion of CRPF were injured in a Naxal attack in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh today, police said.

Raipur: Two jawans of the elite CoBRA battalion of CRPF were injured in a Naxal attack in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh today, police said.

A CoBRA team had an encounter with suspected ultras in the same district on Friday night, in which eight villagers and a jawan were killed.
The incident took place when the 199 Battalion Cobra (Commando Battalion for Resolute Action), a specialised unit of CRPF, was on a search operation in the border region of Dantewada and Bijapur districts in south Bastar.

"When the patrolling party reached jungles of Basaguda, rebels opened fire, injuring two securitymen.
"Security forces retaliated, which forced the Naxals to flee to the forest," a senior official said.

The injured jawans - Lakshman Singh (22) and Chhabilal (24) - were airlifted to Raipur`s MMI hospital where their condition was stated to be out of danger.
