Woman Maoist arrested in Chhattisgarh

A woman Maoist, carrying a reward of 1.10 lakh on her head, was arrested during a joint search operation by security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said Tuesday.

Raipur: A woman Maoist, carrying a reward of 1.10 lakh on her head, was arrested during a joint search operation by security personnel in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district, police said Tuesday.

Yalam Sarita alias Rita (27), an active member of Madded LGS (Local Guriella Squad) was apprehended from restive Marimalla forests under Madded police station limits late last evening, a senior police official told PTI.

zesides, Sarita was also working in the medical team of Madded Area Committee of CPI (Maoist), the official said.

A joint squad of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force), CAF (Chhattisgarh Armed Force) and district force, was dispatched on a combing operation in Bangapalli, Muttapur, and Marimalla on Septermber 14.

While returning to the camp yesterday, they spotted a woman trying to escape from the region following which they rounded up the cadre, he said.

She was involved in serious criminal offences, including loot, arson, murder, kidnapping and attacks on police party, he said.

As per government reward policy on cadres, she was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on her head where as office of Bijapur Superintendent of Police office had announced 10,000 for her arrest, the official said.

The woman ultra is being interrogated, which is likely to reveal crucial information regarding the?outlawed movement in the region, the official said.
