Chennai: Volvo India, manufacturers of luxury cars and buses, today said the company has bagged orders to deliver 600 buses this year, an increase of 50 per cent over last year, despite recession.
The company has bagged significant orders from various companies, including the state-run Metropolitan Transport Corporation in the city, a company press release said.
Volvo buses have been well received in Chennai, it said,
adding that the company had already delivered 30 buses to MTC
and has secured an additional order for 100 more Volvo 8400
series buses, it said.
The company has also received orders for 15 more city
buses from Haryana, it said, adding that the Volvo bus factory
in Bangalore is operating at full capacity.
"India is one of the world's largest city-bus markets and
we foresee major opportunities ahead", Volvo Buses India
Managing Director Akash Passey said.
The company recently secured orders from private
operators for an additional 40 units of "Volvo 9400" range of
buses. Deliveries of all buses would be made throughout 2009
and also in 2010, the release added.
