New Delhi: The nearly three-months-old 'go-slow' agitation by workers at Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India has ended with an agreement with the management.
The workers claimed that the management has agreed an
across the board salary hike of Rs 4,400, besides giving
special incentives as per respective remuneration structures.
"We have today reached an agreement with the HMSI
management under which workers are to receive a salary hike of
Rs 4,400 per month besides other special incentives," All
India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Secretary (Gurgaon
District) Suresh Gaud told reporters.
As the demands have bow been accepted, the 'go-slow'
process, resorted to by the workers, is over, he added.
In Mumbai, HMSI president and CEO Shinji Aoyoma said: "We
have already reached a broad understanding with the labour
unions."
After the 2005 violent strike at HMSI's Manesar plant,
the management and workers union had signed a long-term
agreement in 2006, which expired this July. The two parties
have been re-negotiating the terms and conditions for almost
last three months to cover issues, including higher wages.
Due to the agitation, HMSI's order backlog touched 1.4
lakh units with over Rs 300 crore of production loss. However,
it started the third assembly line yesterday and is expecting
to clear the backlog soon with the resumption of normal
production.
