Ahmedabad: Plasma technology can bring a
paradigm shift in the textile industry, Reliance Industries
(Textiles) president Anand Parekh said here.
Speaking at a workshop organised by the Institute of
Plasma Research (IPR) yesterday, Parekh said, "There are major
issues of pollution of the environment connected with the
industry particularly where wet processes are going on."
"Also, the net cash generation is very limited and as
a result there is no major research or development happening
in the textile industry where the profit margin levels are
2 to 4 per cent, while returns on investment are very low,"
Parekh said, during the inaugural session of the workshop on
"Eco-Friendly Plasma Application in Textile".
Textile being a low entry barrier industry there is
huge competition without much differentiation in products,
Parekh said.
"Looking at these aspects of the industry I think
plasma technology seems to have all the ingredients to provide
a break-through for making product differentiation, getting
much better returns on investments by lowering production cost
and keeping the environment clean," he said.
"Plasma technology is something that can bring a
paradigm shift in the way the industry operates and develops
the products that industry does today," Parekh added.
