St Lucia: After being eliminated from the third edition of T20 World Cup, Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni blamed post-match IPL parties for the debacle.

“The IPL parties after the every match took a toll on the Indian players,” said a visibly upset MS Dhoni while addressing the post match press conference here on Tuesday.

He also said that it’s up to the players how they respect their bodies during the hectic IPL schedule.

“It’s up to the individual player how they respect their bodies and balance the parties with their performance,” said the India skipper.

He also said his side failed to play to its potential.

India needed to win by at least 20 runs against Sri Lanka but lost the Super Eights match by five wickets to crash out of the elite ICC event.

India looked set for big score as they were 90 for one in 10 overs after electing to bat and could score just 163 for five and ended up losing all second round matches.

"I think execution of plans from their bowlers was very good, even with set batsmen we couldn't score freely. Overall, batting is our strength and we should have done better.”

"We didn't perform to our potential. The last 4-5 overs that they bowled really restricted us. We need to improve in quite a few areas," Dhoni said after the match.

Sri Lanka enhanced their chances of making the semifinals with this win and captain Kumar Sangakkara had nothing but praise for his bowlers.

"At the end, we were chasing at least 144. Even I thought India would make a very big score, but the guys came back really well at the back end to cut off the runs and to pick up wickets as well," he said.

"Dilshan really got the momentum back after the early wickets, and we have always talked about how good our young players are, and they showed that today. Whatever happens after this, we can rest assured we have done the best we can."

Angelo Mathews, adjudged Man-of-the-Match for his crucial 46-run knock said, "I had to give a good performance with the bat, I'm glad I did it at the right time."

i always backup dhoni he was a very good captain and he is. the team which dhoni took this time is like going to war without a sword (i.e.) no quality seamer is given. i think zaheer and ashish is no fit to play t20 anymore.

95/1 in 10 overs. raina strike rate was 190. once dhobi joined him runrate went down. when raina was out his runrate was 134. inf first place rohit should come ahead of dhoni. ojha & robin utappa should have been in wc t20 squad. vijay jadeja piyus chawla should be out of all forms of indian cricket.
team & batting order
sehwag sachin gambhir(c)rohit uttappa/rainal/yuvraj dhoni yusuf/irfan zaheer/praveen/vinay/ashwin ojha/harbhajan ambatiraidu/tiwari/s dhawan.
dhoni should be sacked as captain. srikanth should be sacked as chief or.

ridiculous indians mentality dhoni and his team won the first t20 worldcup in south africa by beating pakistan with 5 runs and whole indian was proud upon the performance of its team but now if they are not doing well everyone starts blaming them the real point is that cricket like others is also a game and nothing else but people in india take it as religion or something matter of life and death.you should all praise them as they raised the name of india higher in sky so many times in the history of cricket.i love indian team they still have strong batting line up with the world class players.respect them they are still indians and your fellow citizens........

well to blame the whole team or captain is not the correct way . msd played his role right , not to forget that other teams in the tournament are not gully danda players , they are professionals . its not that all the time india will or should win , its just the team who performed well that day won the match .

making the issue of prestige brings more pressure on players and result is very clear now .

there should be no excuse for loosing thats for sure but one thing cannot be ignored that they were playing with one of the best professional international team who played well and won the match , thats the beauty of cricket and t20 .

now, really? ipl parties took a toll on u guys?? no one forced you`ll to go for them anyway... anyway, one things clear... our bowling is below par, we need sehwag back, we need a quality all rounder and we need to get the basics, such as running between the wickets, right! i also fail to understand, how pakistan and sl both, have bowlers who bowl in excess of speeds 145kmph while they belong to the same sub-continent! i suspect its more to do with longevity than anything else... our bowlers want a career which spans in decades and hence they are forced to drop their speeds and focus on `line and length` (not that they are good at that too)... damn... just frustrating to see this pan out like this!
