Dhoni to remain Twenty20 captain: BCCI

Dhoni to remain Twenty20 captain: BCCI New Delhi: Amid speculation that Mahendra Singh Dhoni may be replaced as India’s Twenty20 captain following the team’s dismal performance in the West Indies, BCCI on Friday sought to clear the air saying though it was unhappy, there was no such move.

“Obviously we are not happy with the performance of the team but it does not mean that we are thinking of removing Dhoni as Twenty20 captain,” a top BCCI source said.

The Indian team, knocked out of the Twenty20 World Cup in the West Indies, returned home today and will have to face some tough questions.

The cricketers avoided eye contact at the Mumbai and Delhi airports with the waiting media and slipped into their vehicles without offering any comments. Dhoni chose to make a quiet back door exit.

The team’s arrival came a day after reports that coach Gary Kirsten had spoken to seven cricketers individually and complained about their fitness and commitment.

On his arrival in Mumbai, team manager Ranjib Biswal denied that the players had got any dressing down from Kirsten.

“Nothing of this sort happened. We were all together at the team hotel’s swimming pool before departing for home,” Biswal told reporters.

Kirsten is believed to have held one-on-one meeting with seven senior players, including Dhoni, and is expected to give his inputs to Biswal who will submit his report to the BCCI.

While the players returned home, Kirsten stayed back in London and would rejoin the side in Johannesburg when the team goes to Zimbabwe for a tri-series also involving Sri Lanka.

Dhoni is under fire for his tactical blunders during the World Cup and according to a source, the selectors want to exert pressure on him by putting him on notice when they sit down to select the Indian team for the Asia Cup next month.

The source said Dhoni would be given the captaincy on a tournament-to-tournament basis.

Although he has led the team to the top of the ICC Test rankings and to the number two spot in the ODI rankings, Dhoni’s captaincy has not been upto expectations in the Twenty20 format.

Support for Dhoni came from former captain Sunil Gavaskar, who felt that he is the best man to lead the side.

“I don’t think anybody should be complacent enough to think his place in the team is secure as a player or as a skipper. But having said that, Dhoni has done the best he could. I still think he is the best bet as far as captaining the country is concerned. He has not quite had the luck he had when he started with India’s captaincy,” Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar, however, dismissed as a “poor excuse” Dhoni’s comments that IPL’s after-match parties and the hectic travelling had taken a toll on the players.

“I don’t think that is an excuse at all. I think that is a very poor excuse used by people to say that IPL parties were the reason for the team not performing. Tell me one thing, there were no parties in the West Indies were they? So how can you say that the team performed badly in the Caribbean because of parties in India,” said Gavaskar.

hello dhooniji, learn from england team spirit. you are enjoying becoming a guru, but a real guru is that who remain always a student.
you forgot to inspire your team as you used to do before. but every new ball is like a new birth of a baby. i know you will not even think about this that is why we indians are very far from today`s realities, after all it is not your fault, if presidents are over 60 years, they can not understand what is vigour in 20 yrs, young boy.

it`s not only dhoni, it,s the fault of whole team and the indian premier league. we should not only blame the players for their ill performances, but also bcci is equally responsible for this. i want to ask a question that if bcci knows that t20 world cup is only 5 or 6 days after ipl then what is the the need of this huge ipl turnament, it wouldn`t wait till the world cup overs, bcci can`t have control over icc but it can change the schedule of ipl, may after world cup or few days before ipl, so players gets time to rest.

dhoni and several other team members of the t20 world cup team should have been removed, not because they could not reach the semis, but for the casual and irresponsible way they played. none of the so-called senior players showed any seriousness, let alone killer instinct. they were playing as if they are playing at some local tournament. see the intensity of the match between pakistan and australia. that kind of attitude was missing in the indian team. the team did not deserve to be in the last four. by not sacking dhoni & co., the bcci has helped itself. otherwise, people would have asked what bcci was doing to see that only talent and performance should be the criteria for team ion.

shame on the part of dhoni who learnt nothing from disatrous defeat in recent world cup. he should learn something from australia who outplayed pakistan in semi final though in 2 overs they scored 34 runs and specially 18 runs from the last over though 7 wickets were down. this is called playing for the country not for money. our all players became models so main intention to make more and more money.
all sponsord companies should rethink before giving them ad`s.
dhoni after all the 3 super 8 matches defeat showing his smiling face on tv shows that for him country has no place only money.
dhoni should be thrown out of team even. such as players like yuvraj, pathan, jadeja should not be inclueded in indian team. young and telented boys should be taken and a refresh team should be made for future. sehwag should be given command to handle indian team if they want to stand somewhere. because dhoni time has now gone and he should be rested for some time.
he has put all indian face down this time aur apni besharmi per ussey koyee gum nahi hai.
shame shame shame ......

well dhoni should remain captain for 20 yrs ...when india wins any match he is just excelent, but when he looses any match he becomes bad its not only the mistake of dhoni its the mistake of the whole team..and dhoni should not be punished 4that.
