New Delhi: The Ahmedabad-based Sabarmati
Jail Superintendent was asked by a Delhi court on Monday to
explain his failure in producing before it the 11 accused
involved in the September 2008 serial blasts here, leading
to deferment of the plan to frame charges against them.

Scheduling the day for framing of charges against all 13
accused, 11 of whom are now lodged in Sabarmati Jail have been
participating in the court proceeding through video
conferencing, Additional Sessions Judge Santosh Snehi Mann had
on February 5 issued warrants for their production in her
court today.

Irked by Gujarat jail authorities` failure to produce
them, Mann said "it is non-compliance of the court order, for
which the Jail Superintendent of Sabarmati Jail in Ahmedabad
is required to explain".

She sought the jail superintendent`s explanation by March
8, the next date of hearing in the case.

The court was also irked by a communication sent by the
Ahmedabad city police commissioner to the Delhi police seeking
armed escorts from the latter for ferrying the accused from
Sabarmati Jail to Delhi, describing the communication as
"interfering with judicial matter".
