255 locations identified as 'isolated and sensitive' in Delhi

A total of 255 places in Delhi have been identified as "isolated and sensitive" in the wake of the rape of a young executive by a cabbie and the Delhi Police have been asked to keep a strict vigil in these areas.

New Delhi: A total of 255 places in Delhi have been identified as "isolated and sensitive" in the wake of the rape of a young executive by a cabbie and the Delhi Police have been asked to keep a strict vigil in these areas.

The "isolated and sensitive" locations include roads, parks and public spaces, according to a Home Ministry report.

While the police control room no. 100 is currently operating with increased capacity of 100 lines from the earlier 60 lines, women helpline no. 1091 is also running with increased capacity of 10 lines. Earlier it had only 4 lines.

The number of PCR vans has been increased to 1000 and CCTV cameras were also installed in 200 buses in the national capital.

The government has also installed 377 CCTV cameras in Delhi and 1,550 CCTV cameras will be installed soon
Installation of GPS has been made mandatory in all public utility vehicles, the report said.

Government has provided training in self defence to 14,373 women in Delhi in 2014 itself.

Delhi has 11 districts and all the districts have fast track court and the conviction rate in rape cases is at 36 per cent in Delhi, which is much higher than the national average of 27 per cent, the report said.
