New Delhi: The national capital reported 30 fresh cases of dengue on Thursday, taking the total number of patients affected this season to 5,899.

The cases of dengue generally start showing a downward trend with the advent of winter as low temperature and less humidity are not conducive for the breeding of dengue-carrier aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

However, this season, a substantial number of dengue cases per day was being reported till now.

This year the number of cases is more than double of that reported in 2006 when the figure was 2,537- the highest in five years. Eight persons have lost their lives to dengue this season.

Delhi has also reported 43 chikungunya cases this year.
