New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi
(MCD) on Wednesday sealed seven guest houses and around 40 shops
constructed illegally in central Delhi's Gaffar Market,
prompting traders to announce a shut down tomorrow.
MCD Leader of House Subhash Arya demanded that the sealing
action undertaken by the civic body in the market located in
Karol Bagh should be immediately stopped till the Development
Plan of the area is not given the final shape.
The civic body took action against seven guest houses and
around 40 shops in the market after finding out that
government land had been encroached upon to build them.
Moreover, norms were flouted in constructing certain portions
of these buildings.
Following the MCD action, Gaffar Market Traders
Association announced they will not open their shops tomorrow
in protest.
