New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday called for an open debate regarding the MLAs allowance hike issue, adding that the party needed to get rid of the 'swindlers' first.
"Whatever problems the MLAs are facing, they have kept it in front of the people. If the same matter comes to the government, there will be an open discussion on it and it is not only the matter of MLAs, everyone in Delhi is a part of this matter. But we need to get rid of the swindlers," said Delhi Transport Minister and AAP leader Gopal Rai.
"We need to have an open discussion on it. The government will look for a solution for an honest democracy," he added.
A delegation of 20 AAP legislators had yesterday met Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanding a hike in their salaries.
According to reports, the MLAs have cited problems in meeting expenses that include the cost of maintaining an office in their constituencies, transportation and running a household.
