AAP comes out in support of Alka Lamba, calls FIR against her 'shocking'

The Aam Aadmi Party came out in strong defence of party MLA Alka Lamba on Monday saying that the lodging of an FIR against her was shocking.

Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party came out in strong defence of party MLA Alka Lamba on Monday saying that the lodging of an FIR against her was shocking.

The official Twitter handle of the party said, "Shocking action of Delhi Police to register an FIR against Alka Lamba, who received a head injury when she was on an anti-drug drive. Delhi Police chief chooses to remain silent when AAP leader is attacked, came forward to virtually blame Alka Lamba for the incident."

In another post AAP said, "Attack on Alka Lamba and subsequent incidents show that Delhi Police is partial and acting under pressure of the BJP’s central government. No amount of futile attempts to divert attention can take away the seriousness of attack on a woman MLA where police personnel were present. Attempts being made to show Alka entering sweet shop, rooftop of which was used to pelt stones at her as the main incident are ridiculous. Though it can be debated whether Alka should have entered the shop after being attacked, but how can it be used to divert the entire case?"

AAP also took on BJP MLA OP Sharma for his comments on Lamba.

"Is the Delhi Police trying to protect the BJP MLA who has used indecent language against Alka Lamba? Is Delhi Police trying to protect BJP MLA whose election affidavit shows him as the owner of the sweet shop from where she was attacked? The language used by the BJP MLA clearly shows that he has no respect either for women or for the rule of law," the party said.

BJP MLA OP Sharma today kicked up a row terming Lamba a "drug addict", as he questioned her "motive" behind embarking on an anti-drugs drive leading to an attack on her.

Alleging the involvement of Lamba, the Chandni Chowk MLA, and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's "goons" in vandalising shops in Chandi Chowk, Sharma threatened retaliation by "lathi-wielding" BJP workers in future in case of such incidents, as per PTI.

"People have said that Lamba is spotted here in the wee hours of the night and I don't think a person who supports drug eradication would come there at that time, between 1 am to 4 am. It apparently shows she is an addict herself. I am not giving any anti-women remark. I respect women but if you try to portray Phoolan Devi as a mascot of women power then it won't work. She is a drug addict who under the effect of drugs had turned violent," Sharma told reporters.

Lamba was allegedly attacked during an anti-drugs campaign in north Delhi's Kashmere Gate area and sustained head injuries.

She started her anti-drugs drive at around 5 am and was standing in front of Shiv Mishthan Bhandar, allegedly owned by a BJP worker, when a man in the shop hurled a stone at her, national spokesman of AAP, Sanjay Singh, said yesterday.

The Chandni Chowk MLA received head injuries and was rushed to Aruna Asaf Ali Hospital, where she was discharged after treatment yesterday.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against her for vandalising and tresspassing in the Kashmere Gate area during the anti-narcotics drive after seven shopkeepers complained against her, as per reports.
