AAP demands Ranjit Sinha's immediate ouster

New Delhi: Hardening its stand against CBI chief Ranjit Sinha, the Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday demanded his immediate sacking from the post, saying he was "unfit" to head the country's premier investigative agency.

The party accused Sinha of maligning his own colleague after he named his subordinate officer as a "mole" who provided documents and file notings to AAP leader and advocate Prashant Bhushan, who filed application against Sinha for his removal.

"Aam Aadmi Party demands the immediate removal of CBI director Ranjit Sinha, since he is unfit to head the country's premier investigating agency given his unbecoming conduct, as has been pointed out by the Supreme Court.

"It is extremely shocking that the CBI chief could go to the extent of maligning his own colleague and exposing his identity just to suit his nefarious designs," the party said.

The party said after the Supreme Court's "stinging observations" on the CBI and its director, the central government must immediately wake up and should not allow the credibility of this investigating agency to be eroded any further.

"The submissions of the Supreme Court appointed special public prosecutor in the 2G case leave nobody in doubt about the role of CBI director in compromising the probe and he is singularly responsible for having taken the agency's credibility to a rock bottom," the party added.

Sinha today suffered a major blow when the apex Court removed him from the 2G scam case, saying the allegations against him of protecting some accused appears to be "prima facie credible".

The court, in an unprecedented order, handed over the case to the senior-most officer after Sinha in the 2G scam investigating team.

The party also slammed the BJP for its "silence" on the issue.

"The BJP central government's silence on the entire matter is mysterious and it can no longer protect a compromised individual, who has made all possible attempts to scuttle the Supreme Court monitored probe in the 2G telecom scam.

"The continuation of Ranjit Sinha on the post of CBI director any further will prove that the BJP's central government is moving on the same line of its predecessor UPA government in protecting and promoting the corrupt.

"The government has already delayed the process of appointing Ranjit Sinha's successor, which is giving rise to the reasonable apprehension that it is planning to give him an extension," the party added.
