New Delhi: AAP MLA Dinesh Mohaniya was on Saturday arrested by police while he was addressing the media at his office in Khanpur in South Delhi.
The Sangam Vihar MLA was arrested for allegedly assaulting two persons.
Mohaniya, who is also the vice-chairman of Delhi Jal Board, said BJP is trying to divert the issue of MM Khan murder case by levelling false charges against him.
“You can see for yourself the 'gunda-gardi' of Delhi Police, they are taking me away,” he told reporters at the venue.
Police have registered two FIRs against Mohaniya.
He was booked on June 23 on charges of causing hurt, criminal intimidation and using word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman, police said. The women had gone to meet him to complain regarding water crisis in their locality.
Delhi Police ACP Jimmy Chiram said, "We have added 354 and 354b sections of the IPC as well."
The complainants, who are residents of Sangam Vihar, alleged that Mohaniya and his accomplices "manhandled" and "threatened" them when they sought his help in the water crisis faced by them.
Mohania dismissed the charges against him as "baseless".
"I am ready to cooperate with the police investigation but the allegations against me are baseless," he said.
Another case has been registered against Mohaniya at Govindpuri Police Station for allegedly slapping a 60-year-old man in Tughlaquabad area yesterday.
Meanwhile, the AAP MLA's supporters have staged a demonstration outside the Neb Sarai Police Station against his arrest, ANI reported.
