AAP unveils Delhi cabinet line-up, Kejriwal likely to hold Finance, Home, Sisodia to be Deputy CM

New Delhi: Ahead of Arvind Kejriwal's oath ceremony as chief minister of the national capital, Aam Aadmi Party sources on Friday stated that the CM-designate is likely to hold the Finance, Home and Energy Ministry portfolios while giving Education Ministry, Public Works Department (PWD), urban development and Deputy CM's post to his confidante and senior party leader Manish Sisiodia.

Other expected members of the cabinet are Sandip Kumar (Sultanpuri Majra) with Women and Child Development; Jitendra Tomar (Tri Nagar) with Law; Gopal Rai (Babarpur) with Transport and Labour; Asim Ahmed Khan (Matia Mahal) with Food and Civil Supply; and Saryendra Jain (Shakur Basti) with Health and Industries.

According to reports, Ram Niwas Goel (Shahdara) is set to be named the speaker of the assembly, with Bandana Kumar (Shalimar Bagh) to be named his deputy.

Former Delhi minister Somnath Bharti is unlikely to be retained after he was dogged by controversy during his brief term in the 2013 assembly. Other former ministers set to face the cut are reportedly Rakhi Birla, Girish Soni and Saurabh Bhardwaj.

Earlier in the day, Bharti had maintained that he had opted out of the cabinet “willingly” since he wanted focus on issues relating to his constituency.

On micro-blogging website Twitter, Bharti wrote - “Let me put all speculations at rest. I hv willingly opted not to take any responsibility in the govt n nt because I possess any demerit.” (sic)

In another Tweet, Bharti added, “I want to focus on building my constituency as a model one n utilize all my time n energy for the same.”

Meanwhile, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), which had started preparations for the oath ceremony two days back, today gave final touches to the arrangements at the venue in Central Delhi. The municipal officials said preparations for the event were near complete. Around 1,200 Delhi Police personnel will keep a tight vigil at the venue where a large crowd is expected to gather.

The Security Wing will secure the stage where Delhi Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Kejriwal and five other Ministers.

Kejriwal is expected to unveil his priorities for the government after taking oath. He has already asked Chief Secretary DM Spolia to start work on a roadmap to implement AAP's 70-point election manifesto.

Anticipating a large crowd, Delhi Traffic Police today advised commuters to avoid routes leading to Ramlila Maidan tomorrow.
