New Delhi: Delhi Home Secretary G S Patnaik
on Thursday called on Lt Governor Tejindra Khanna and discussed the
law and order situation in the capital with him.
The meeting, though described as a routine affair,
assumes significance in the wake of clearance of a file
pertaining to mercy petition of Parliament attack convict
Afzal Guru by Delhi government.
Yesterday, Delhi Government had sent the file on Guru
to Khanna, unambiguously backing the capital punishment for
the convict but at the same time asking the Centre to take
care of the law and order situation while carrying out the
Sources said the issue figured in the meeting between
Khanna and Patnaik.
The city government, whose opinion on the mercy petition
was sought by the Union Home Ministry almost four years ago,
had sent the file to Khanna on Monday but the LG had returned
it on Tuesday seeking more clarifications.
