New Delhi: A controversy brewing at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after director of the institute Dr MC Mishra moved to sack Dr Sudhir Gupta as head of the forensics department.

Dr Mishra has filed an affidavit in the Delhi High Court remove Dr Gupta from his post.

Reacting to development, Dr Gupta said, “AIIMS Director Dr MC Mishra has filed affidavit to appoint some other faculty member as head of dept in my place.”

“I don’t think there is approval of Secretary and Union Health Minister. They will have to clarify what is their stand as they are also a party in High Court, they will have to file their separate reply,” he said.

“He (MC Mishra) never wrote me letter that he wants to relieve from HoD post, he has to clarify why he wants to remove me from this post,” Dr Gupta added.

Dr Gupta was in the news last year over his controversial claim that pressure was brought on him to manipulate the post mortem report on Shashi Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar

Sunanda (52) was found dead in a 5-star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17, a day after her twitter spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar over an alleged affair with Tharoor.

The autopsy report had mentioned more than a dozen injury marks on Sunanda's both hands and an abrasion on her cheek which suggests a "use of blunt force", besides a "deep teeth bite" on the edge of her left palm.

Dr Gupta was quizzed by the special investigation team probing the Sunanda murder case in January this year.
